Slender fingers reached up to brush over the week's worth of stubble that had formed on his cheeks and along his jawline, the rough feel of his whiskers over his chiseled features causing pleasant anticipation to bubble up in her stomach. With a shallow breath, Helena finally opened her eyes again to find his face just inches above her own, watching her intently. Helena closed her eyes as the fingers Brock had guided her with carefully brushed her bangs away from her face, combing gently through her loose tresses, finally weaving his digits amidst the auburn strands to cradle her. His stoic facade faltered, a faint smile forming on his lips as his thoughts returned to her again.īrock mouthed a 'sorry' as he shifted his body and extended his weight-baring arm above her head, watching cautiously for any hint of apprehension. Drawing out his phone from one of his many pockets, he swiped the screen and flipped to his camera files to the picture he'd snapped of Helena on their lunch date at the restaurant, taken in secret as he returned from the restroom. Important as his mission was, he couldn't deny to himself that his mind had been preoccupied with the young woman at headquarters awaiting his return. He'd gotten sloppy, just for a moment, but long enough to take a punch from an enemy that he should have been able to evade. He glanced down at his reflection in the high-gloss surface before him, noting the faint bruising that was beginning to form on his cheek. He didn't want to get drunk and do something he'd regret, but with his team having voted unanimously to stop at a local bar after their successful mission before heading home to the states, he had to occupy his time somehow. 3) Does that make any sense? LOL.īrock stared seemingly at nothing as he lifted a glass bottle to his lips, taking a swig of beer and placing the container back down on the polished wooden bar top before him. Let’s cross that finish line together and get OUTTA here together. Let’s find small ways to escape the tedium. So give me your hand and let’s jump out the window! Let’s find solace in each other. 2) When it comes to the lyrics and the legit meaning of the song, I can easily relate it to the fact that they’ve all met in undergrad, which is an experience that many do, in fact, find boring and confining as you slog through weird class requirements and lame parties and tough exams and shitty professors. You’re all a little obsessed with each other, despite your interpersonal hang-ups or issues or whatever, as you face those stressful, mundane/tedious, and sad moments of young adulthood together. “WOW, this is music? This is music and I’m in love and I will spend the rest of my life searching for things that recapture this feeling.” Anyway, that’s the exact energy I think you can experience with groups of friends that you have when you’re young. 1) Listen to it! The energy of this song is incredible and I remember listening to the CD on the little boombox that I placed the album sticker on in my childhood room in the seventh grade and like, physically vibrating. It’s about work and how damn boring and confining it can be, which may sound like the antithesis to what a theme song for a friend group should be but hold awn hold awn hold awn hear me out. Not when it comes to this goal she’s held for so long. It feels selfish and shitty, especially because she has zero intentions of making any sacrifices herself in this specific situation. She’s unsure of what she’s allowed to ask of Cruz, if only because she cannot rationalize making any huge demands. ![]() Yana will go wherever she can and to whoever will take her, no matter how far. And then on the other hand, with graduation nearing, their future hangs in the air and the talks they’ve had about the next steps have been primarily. Significant reliance feels like a weakness to her. Yana had to learn a lot about how to both open up to him and how to feel like she could lean on him without feeling like a burden/a failure. I chose this song for Yana and Cruz because I feel it’s representative of both the early days of their relationship and their relationship currently. It’s another song that’s a lot about learning how to open up about things too (a skill all humans must learn given the fact that vulnerability can be a bitch!). This song is very much about a less-than-ideal circumstance that’s out of your control and imagining a world in which the whole thing could just magically get better with the snap of your fingers or with a specific price tag.
